A young woman with light skin and tousled brown hair smiles brightly, holding a red apple close to her face. Her clear green eyes and freckles capture a summer glow, while the plain gray background emphasizes her cheerful expression and the shiny apple.

YOUR METABOLISM LOVES SUMMER, HERE’S HOW TO LOVE IT BACK!

We all think summer is the perfect time to lose a little weight to feel great, with supermarkets piled high with fresh fruit and veg and salads easy to whip up, but did you know that’s it even easier if you work with your metabolism to make things happen faster.

A smiling woman with shoulder-length blonde hair wears a yellow sleeveless top and beaded necklaces. She sits outdoors in the summer sunlight, with tropical green leaves and blue sky behind her. Sunglasses rest on her head, and she holds an orange-patterned cushion.

Here, Lucinda Railton, founder of iWellness, Holistic Coach and Metabolic Balance Practitioner, tells you how you can look and feel your very best while the sun’s shining!

YOU’VE NOT LOST YOUR MOMENTUM, YOU HAVE JUST FORGOTTEN THAT SUMMER WAS ALMOST MEANT TO FEEL THIS GOOD!

Summer is not the enemy of your metabolism. It is one of its greatest allies. Longer days, more light, warmer temperatures and a natural shift towards lighter eating all work in your favour biologically, if you know how to work with them.

The mistake most people make is treating summer as either a free-for-all or a threat. Your metabolism does not take a holiday. It responds, every single day, to the signals you send it through food, movement, sleep and stress. Summer simply gives you a beautiful window to send better ones.

Two red and yellow apples covered in water droplets sit side by side on a rustic wooden board against a dark background, radiating summer freshness. The glossy apples and weathered board highlight nature’s beauty and the simple joys of the season.

EAT WITH THE LIGHT

A ceramic bowl with blue patterns holds a serving of blueberries, seeds, and what appears to be yogurt or oatmeal—a perfect summer boost for your metabolism. A metal spoon rests inside, set on a smooth gray surface under natural light.

Your body runs on a circadian clock governed by daylight. In summer, that clock shifts: appetite is lower in the mornings, energy peaks earlier and digestion is strongest at lunchtime. Eat a proper lunch, keep dinner lighter and earlier, and let the long evenings be for rest. Protein remains non-negotiable at every meal. A palm of protein at breakfast, whether eggs, yoghurt, smoked fish or leftovers, anchors blood sugar and keeps your metabolic rate steady even when appetite naturally dips in the heat.

The women who feel best in summer are not doing more. They finally stopped!

MOVE GENTLY, MOVE DAILY

High-intensity exercise in summer heat raises cortisol sharply and suppresses digestion. Walk instead. Swim. A twenty-minute walk after dinner does more for your blood sugar and nervous system than an hour of punishment in a hot gym. Your metabolism rewards consistency, not heroics.

A small pool with steps and a metal railing is framed by smooth, white stucco walls and an arched opening. Bright summer sun, palm trees, and a blue sky are visible outside, along with another pool and lush greenery in the background.

YOUR SUMMER HYDRATION GO-TO

Sip this instead of a second coffee and notice the difference in your energy within days.

—  500ml cool water or chilled hibiscus tea

—  Juice of half a lemon and half a lime

—  Small pinch of good sea salt

—  1 tsp raw honey

—  Fresh mint or sliced cucumber

TIP: The salt replaces sodium lost through sweat. The lemon supports liver detoxification. The honey provides a trace of natural glucose for cellular uptake.

AN EASY SUMMER RECIPE TO ANCHOR YOUR WEEK

Roasted courgette and white bean salad with lemon and herbs

—  2 courgettes, roasted with olive oil and sea salt

—  1 tin white beans, drained

—  Rocket, fresh mint and flat-leaf parsley

—  Lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil

—  Two soft-boiled eggs or grilled salmon alongside

Toss everything together warm. Eat slowly, outside if you can. This is intelligent wellness on a plate, whole food, seasonal, protein-anchored, and genuinely nourishing.

Summer is not the time to shrink. It is the time to settle into your body, nourish it with seasonal abundance and let your nervous system exhale. Your metabolism will reward every single one of those choices.

A round loaf of bread with a rustic, crusty surface sits in a glass dish on a metal cooling rack. The bread, dusted with flour and featuring spiral and crisscross scoring, brings the warmth and love of summer into your kitchen.
A colorful plate holds a round, finely diced tartare topped with green dollops, orange edible flower petals, and herbs, all surrounded by a bright yellow sauce—a lively summer dish perfect for healthy living. The plate features intricate floral patterns.
Seared tuna slices arranged over a bed of wild rice and broccolini on a white plate. Garnished with sesame seeds and a drizzle of yellow-orange sauce, this vibrant dish is perfect for summer and supports a healthy metabolism.
A colorful ceramic plate with yellow fruit designs holds a fillet of white fish on summer vegetables, topped with toasted pine nuts and green herbs. The dish is artfully presented with vibrant, decorative patterns around the rim.
