This privacy policy explains what personal information Elysium Lifestyle Magazine (“Elysium”, “we”, “us”) collects when you visit elysiumlifestylemagazine.com, sign up to our newsletter or get in touch, how we use it and the choices you have. We follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
Elysium Lifestyle Magazine is an online magazine written by women for women, based in the United Kingdom. We are the controller of the personal information described here. If you have any question about this policy or your information, email us at editorial@elysiumlifestylemagazine.com.
What we collect
- When you contact us: your name, email address, the subject you choose and your message, through our contact form or by email.
- When you apply to contribute: the details you send us in the contributor form, such as your name, email address, links to your work and anything you tell us about yourself.
- When you join the newsletter: your email address and, if you give it, your first name.
- When you enter a giveaway: the details the entry form asks for, usually your name and email address.
- When you browse the site: technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit and how you arrived. Some of this is collected with cookies, and only with your consent where the law requires it.
How we use it, and why we are allowed to
- To reply to you and deal with your enquiry or contributor application. We rely on your consent, which you give when you tick the box on the form, and on our legitimate interest in running the magazine.
- To send you the newsletter you signed up for. We rely on your consent, and you can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email.
- To run giveaways, including choosing and contacting winners. We rely on your consent when you enter.
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it, and to keep it secure and free of spam. We rely on your consent for analytics cookies and on our legitimate interest for security.
- To meet our legal obligations, for example keeping records we are required to keep.
We do not sell your personal information, and we never use it for automated decisions that have a legal or similar effect on you.
Who we share it with
We only share your information with trusted services that help us run the magazine, and only as much as they need. They act on our instructions and must keep your information safe. These include:
- Pressable (Automattic), which hosts the website, and Jetpack, which handles our contact forms, site statistics and security.
- Grow by Mediavine, which manages our newsletter sign-ups and mailing list.
- Google Analytics, through Google Site Kit, which tells us how visitors use the site, only if you accept analytics cookies.
- KingSumo, when you enter one of our giveaways.
- YouTube, Vimeo and similar services, when you play a video embedded on the site.
- Amazon and other retailers, when you click an affiliate link. They can see that you came from our site. You can read more in our affiliate disclosure.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of Elysium, our readers or others.
International transfers
Some of these services are based outside the UK, mainly in the United States. Where your information is transferred outside the UK, we rely on the safeguards the law provides, such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement and Addendum.
Cookies
We use cookies to make the site work, to remember your choices and, with your permission, to measure how the site is used. Our cookie policy lists them in full, and you can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries and contributor applications: up to two years after our last contact, unless we go on working together.
- Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe.
- Giveaway entries: up to six months after the giveaway closes.
- Analytics data: for the period set in Google Analytics, which is no longer than 14 months.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it;
- ask for your information in a format you can take elsewhere;
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting what we did before.
To use any of these rights, email editorial@elysiumlifestylemagazine.com. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, although we would like the chance to put things right first.
