Known for her expertise in bespoking facial treatments, blending the latest technology with lymph drainage massage, skin boosters and more, Shelley has a waiting list for her treatments that include the Carbon Facial which she has re-visioned include a range of beneficial add-ons to enhance every client’s experience.
Keen to who to know what I could do to improve the look of open pores and areas of pigmentation, I was excited to meet her and hear her recommendations.
As well as a series of gentle ‘tweakments, including microneedling, Shelley explained how the Carbon Facial which uses a gentle but effective non-invasive YAG laser would deep cleanse and refine my skin texture, helping to minimise the look of open pores while the clever additions including the Ice Globes and skin-rejuvenating red-light therapy would help tighten and firm my skin and bring back the glow.
HOW IT WORKS
The Carbon Facial also known as the Hollywood Peel uses a combination of laser with a carbon mask which work to deep cleanse skin, removing impurities from the pores, reducing the excess oil that leads to congestion and dull looking skin.
Shelley explained that the liquid carbon she paints on to my face like a mask is allowed to dry for a few minutes getting to work on deep cleansing my skin. Then once the carbon is ready, the laser is passed over the skin working like a magnet, instantly heating and vaporising the carbon ingredient along with the trapped impurities.

WHAT I THOUGHT
After a thorough cleanse, Shelley painted on the carbon mask that felt instantly cool, then used the special YAG laser handpiece to work over my skin in a smooth sequence of moves. The thermal effect not only helps lift away any trapped dirt, it also help heat the lower dermis triggering collagen and elastin production.
Applying the goggles to protect my eyes from the laser light, Shelley explained that most clients describe the feeling of the treatment as having a rubber band gently ping over the skin.

I did feel that sensation as she gradually worked over my skin with the handpiece but the tingling lasts just seconds and I soon got used to it.

Once the carbon had been ‘zapped’ and my face cleansed again, Shelley used the blissful Ice Globes straight form the fridge working over my skin to further tighten the pores and calm any redness. On a hot day mid-heatwave, it felt blissful!

The final step of my treatment was 10 minutes of gentle LED Red Light therapy. I have had this treatment before as part of a facial and it never fails to deliver a calming, healing benefit that goes on working long after the facial. It also helps boost collagen production.
TREATMENT EXPECTATION
Taking a peek in the mirror my skin looked very much fresher, I could see an immediate difference in pore size, particularly on my nose and forehead, my skin felt firmer to the touch too.

Shelley advised me to wear a good SPF and to avoid chemical exfoliator and retinoids for us to a week and that I would go on seeing my skin improve.
I’d been investing in expensive pore concealer in make-up but I can honestly notice a real difference to how my skin looks and feels I’ve felt comfortable wearing just a tinted moisturiser for day – and it feels great.
Shelley advised a course of 4-6 Carbon Facials up to six weeks apart for best results.
Price £95 for a single treatment, £330 for four.
