This March, Brixton will once again become a focal point for International Women’s Month as South London Women Artists present “Sisterhood” at Lambeth Archives (2–31 March 2026).
Marking International Women’s Day and celebrating 18 years of the South London Women Artists group (SLWA), the exhibition brings together 76 women artists in a rare and powerful collective moment.
The concept for “Sisterhood” comes from portrait artist Julie Bennett, whose vision centres on unity, visibility and the strength of women working side by side.

Reflecting on the anniversary, Bennett says:
“This exhibition celebrates 18 years of South London Women Artists. It’s going to be a fantastic show, with the majority of our members taking part, something we haven’t seen on this scale for years. It feels particularly meaningful to have it hosted by Lambeth Archives, a space that preserves our local history, as we mark this important chapter in SLWA’s story.”
The Power of Women, Together
Founded in 2008 by artist Léonie Cronin and local art collector Jenny Sweeney, SLWA has spent nearly two decades building a supportive platform for women artists across South London.
Guided over the years by artists Melissa Budasz, Laura Moreton-Griffiths, Alice Lenkiewicz, Michelle Baharier and now Beth Worth, the collective has grown from a grassroot initiative into a dynamic and enduring artistic network spanning painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, printmaking, ceramics and mixed media.

The title of the exhibition “Sisterhood”, named so by current chair Beth Worth, embodies this journey. Each artwork carries its own narrative of identity, resilience, activism, motherhood, heritage, transformation, yet collectively they form something larger: a visual representation to collaboration over competition.
Among the exhibiting artists are also members of Creations Atelier, including Paola Minekov, Natalia Giacomino, Michelle Baharier, Rosie Arnoldi, Dil Vahidova and Carry Hornby, artists whose practices reflect the diversity and depth of contemporary women’s voices.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a printed catalogue, ensuring that this landmark art show is documented, creating a lasting record of women artists in South London coming together creatively in 2026.
